yes they do or else you'll ruin your exhust valves, and they will not work properly without any back pressure, this may not happen as soon as you start it up, but over time it will cause damage

They absolutely do when you want them to run rite and live long.

Now dont go telling your dad how smart you are and he isnt cause we wont believe you got yourself a black eye from riding

it doesn't matter what type of quad you have Dummer, unless it's strictly a full open throttle racer, you need back pressure ... Honda actually has a specification for it, 1 to 2inches ... if not you will flood the carb, burn the exhaust valves and consume massive amounts of fuel (just to name a few) ... I hate to say this but, YOU were correct
