ok this is what happened.... On the big paragon trip we took a few months ago my bike sucked in some water but i was able to get it started (after alot of kicking). The bike hasn't been running the same ever since that. It wasnt to bad the rest of that day and seemed to get better i had pod air filters but to aviod anymore water from getting in there i went to a stock air box with k&n filter.... about 3 weeks ago i went down to njorvp to ride with my gf.... bike sound like it was running good and had plenty of time for it to warm up with my gf stalling out so many times... well i decided i wanted to have some fun and i was doing some donutes in the sand then it happened i had ALOT of white smoke coming out of my left tail pipe and the bike felt like it wanted to stall and i get alot of vibration out until it was up to a higher rpm. When it is there the bike runs fine. Decided to go back to the truck to check it out and by the time i got there there wasnt anymore smoke coming out and wasnt vibrating as much so wanting to get my 50 dollars a person i went back out with my gf so she can practice more. She was putting around and i got a little throttle happy on the way back to the truck and flew by her. I stopped and now had smoke comming out the right tail pipe and the vibration was just as bad as before after that i decided to call it a day with my bike and i took hers around the track a few times and then went home.... I want to get my carbs cleaned out by a shop cause for some reason when i do it my bike doesnt like to idle right...was wondering if i should start there or should i be looking for some bigger priblem????

by having white smoke burning off, sounds like one of two things...Blown head, base gasket,or the right side crank seal...Does it smell sweet??before you take your carbs to get cleaned, buy a compression tester and take readings off both your jugs..they should be anywhere between 100 and 125 for a stocker..
and save your money and tear them carbs down yourself..just keep your work are clean and organized and put it back the way it was..there simple..any problems just holler

I agree with SC. I'd suspect a head gasket if you're seeing white smoke. Try and see if it smells sweet, like sugar.
Superchicken, if the right side crank seal failed, he wouldn't have observed smoke out of the left side exhaust pipe correct? Also, does the coolant really make contact with the basegasket? It's hard to imagine cooling passages on the lower end of those cylinders.

Ya know your your right about the base gasket...Coolant doest see it at all...I forgot about that..And 99.99999% the right side only smokes when the crank seal goes but I had seen them puff smoke on the left due to case defects anround the center bearings, letting oil get pulled to the left jug

was thinking about going to a pro design cool head...would that solve any future head gasket problems??? i know it increases cooling by like 30% or something like that... sorry but didnt check the compression yet started up on the first kick yeasterday though

cool heads do work..Ive got one on mine..They also allow you change the domes to switch compression...And do yourself a favor, dont run your quad too much without getting it fixed...Antifreeze plays hell on the crank bearings..............:horsebeating:
It will probably run good till hot, thats when the steel starts to move around and expand...not to mention your cooiant wanting to expand, and find its way to the leak....
